Handmade products is it safe?

What does handmade skin care products mean to you?

It means that I can avoid unnecessary chemicals in my products therefore keeping people and environment safer.

Why did this little world of handmade skin care products start?

Didn’t it start because more people were becoming aware of the dangerous chemicals large companies were putting into their mass produced skin products. Sure some of the people that were making handmade products were trying to save money and some were trying to make money but the bottom line is that handmade means avoiding the “bad stuff."

Why do you choose handmade skin care products over mass produced products?

Because you believe it to be safe, right?

Most of the time we don’t pay attention to ingredients in skin care products and we think that since it’s on the shelf or it’s handmade it’s safe, think again. We should all know about the “on the shelf” stuff but let’s talk about your handmade products you buy. When you purchase a skin care product (say at a craft fair or farmers market or even online) do you read the ingredients? You should be able to read everything like olive oil, coconut oil, argan oil or baking soda, right? But there are some you keep reading and it says Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, huh? What is that SLS? Didn’t they say SLS is bad? That’s not SLS that’s SLSA. They took one of the bad things and literally made it safe by tweaking it. Or did they really make it safe? Well I don’t know. Why don’t I know, well It hasn’t been around long enough for us to know what it could possible do to our health but I do know that it does take a while to bio-degrade therefore causing harm to aquatic life. The FDA said it was skin safe, though it can cause skin irritation to some. So why do these hand-makers add it to their products? One answer from a hand-maker I got is, “Because I like it." So, I asked her if she was informing her customers on what she is putting in her products, and honestly I just went to re-read all her answers to my questions on her ingredients and she deleted everything! Anyway back to why they add SLSA, the answer for more bubbles. Yup that’s it. Totally avoidable but let’s just take a chance on our health so we can have more bubbles.
